Went up yesterday & even if I was not even close to both of them, Terminal gave me a freindly reminder of the new expanded zones.

They must have received lots of complaints.

From the DESIGNATED AIRSPACE HANDBOOK (http://www.navcanada.ca/ContentDefinitionFiles/Publications/AeronauticalInfoProducts/DAH/DAH_current_EN.pdf)

CYR537 PARLIAMENT HILL, ON
The airspace within the area bounded by a circle of:
0.35 mile radius centred on
N4525'29.00" W07541'59.00"

CYR538 RIDEAU HALL, ON
The airspace within the area bounded by a circle of:
0.35 mile radius centred on
N4526'40.00" W07541'32.00"

Which gives me the following two rough sketches

I know this is an old thread/change, but I think this (http://goo.gl/VgLOcu) might be a useful reference as well:

FYI, I created the map above using this site as well as the lat/long and radius from the DAH:

Rumour has it that both air spaces will be connected and combined into one.
Remains to be seen if and when that will happen.
Happy New Year, everyone !

I hear that the new restricted areas are being busted far more often than they used to be. And the Pretty little poster they sent to Rockliffe and the Ottawa Flying Club isn't helpful (The Snowbirds one)

I also regularly fly city tours at 1500' and have never ran afoul of the restricted areas. and I have set myself up to allow great pictures Into the restricted airspace.

I think TC would be far better releasing detailed maps of the airspace or transition zones rather than sending out warning posters with no info.

Why don't they remove those silly restricted airspaces? They serve no security whatsoever. CF-18 are more than an hour away. If a terrorist decides to crash a 150 on the parliament building, those restricted airspaces are not going to stop him.

If this is true that they want to increase them, is COPA lobying against that?

No practical purpose at all.  However, by putting it there the authorities were able to cite anyone who violated it, then point to all the "violations" and use those incidents as ammunition to insist on larger restrictions.  This is how the empire grows.  And Rockcliffe Airport is clearly unsafe and dangerous since most of the "violators" were flying in or out of Rockcliffe.

COPA spends a lot of time explaining why they do not get involved in issues.  Look at the MTCU issue that is killing the small flying schools in Ontario.  The MTCU process did nothing to fix the original problem - "pay-in-advance" scams targeting foreign students - but it created a huge bureaucratic headache for the small flying schools.
