Suggestion for new forum category
« on: January 24, 2011, 02:45:02 PM »
Hi,

I was wondering if there'd be any interest in a new major forum category called something like "Never Again", or "Lessons Learned". It would be a place where we could share stories about a recent flight, with the specific intention of sharing a learning or "gotcha" that might be helpful to others.

Being a newbie, this might already exist but I simply didn't find it - if so can someone please point me at it?

Cheers.

Careful.  A pilot I know uploaded an experience he had to another website, for similiar purposes - "I learned from that".  A Transport Inspector got ahold of it, and he's looking at 4 charges from Enforcement now.

Be careful what you say.

Thanks Pigpen, for mentioning that.  I was going to initially suggest that this board should be made completely anonymous (and hopefully TC cant obtain server logs, but thats why proxies exist), but I deleted that before posting.

If the intentions werent malicious, and there are lessons to be learned, by all means, we shouldn't be afraid to share it.

You gents raise a really good point. Anything put out in cyberspace whether it's via a web forum, Facebook, e-mail or other is implicitly public domain. There is no such thing as anonymity on the internet, by the very nature of internet protocol. Anyone who puts in writing an admission to violating a law can assume that it will be presented as evidence in a court of law.

It was certainly not my intention to trick anyone into admitting that they violated a law. It comes more from a place of safety and life-long learning, particularly as it applies to flying in this part of Ontario and Quebec. As a for-instance, I've had to change my underwear more than once flying into Lachute for a $100 hamburger when the gliders are active - I'd hate to see an unsuspecting newly licensed pilot fly in there without some warning of the hazards. Also, this past weekend I had an interesting human factors experience departing Toronto Island that I was looking for a place to share on this forum, but was unsure where to put it.

Ultimately, I'm new here, and thus have limited credibility. It was a suggestion - the administrators can decide what to do with it. If they choose to implement it, then we all have the option to post to it, or not.

Cheers.
