Flight yoke smartphone/tablet holder suggestions
« on: September 12, 2017, 08:23:10 PM »
Hi all,

I'm getting back in the left seat of a tomahawk, and wondering, what do you guys suggest for a flight yoke mounted cell or tablet?

I heard of rammounts, but anything else you would recommend? Of course it can't be permanent mount.

Thanks

In the same boat here. I am looking for an iPad2 mount as well. Looking at both yoke and suction mounts. Appreciate any personal experiences, pros/cons.

BTW - does anyone else miss a retail pilot shop close to Ottawa? Not even a decent one in Montreal! I am driving down to AVWorld and Threshold Aviation in Toronto this weekend, primarily to pick up the mounts.

I normally order on line.

Im looking at getting the iPad mini cause the ipda2 will be too big for a small cockpit.

I am using Foreflight on an iPad Mini 2 and went with a yoke-mounted holder.  It's this one:

   http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pspages/ramipadminiyokekit.php

I find it works well in the 172, I mount it on the right-side control column and I don't have any issues with interference when operating the controls.  I'll snap some pictures the next time I'm flying.

My instructor uses a suction-mounted holder instead and apparently it works just as well, although I haven't seen it in action.

that's exactly what im wanting to do.

I'll be flying a PA-38 Tomahawk in early spring (getting back into flying after a 4year absence).
Im also looking at forflight as an added tool in the cockpit. How do you find the foreflight on ipad2 mini  Acel?

I've been using a $9 thing with my iPad mini suctioned to the left window for years now.  Does the trick.

Here's a link to one on Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/kwmobile-windshield-car-mount-Tablets/dp/B00COJRN3C/ref=sr_1_30?ie=UTF8&qid=1508177975&sr=8-30&keywords=tablet+mount+suction+universal

Picked up one of these Suction mounts with an X-grip, which can comfortably hold my iPad with its jacket on. The double suction makes it pretty solid and reliable. So far happy with it. It costed me $99 + taxes at Threshold Aviation in Toronto.

I'm happy to have my yokes bare again, after quite a few years with a Garmin 696 mounted. My ideal would be a knee board tablet holder with a fold-over clipboard for writing.
